Skipping 4 Schools

Children across school enjoyed skipping workshops delivered by George Kubu from Skipping 4 Schools. The day was a great success and all the children had a great time skipping!

Here are some of the comments the children made about the day-

We liked watching and learning the different skipping games like 'double dutch and cat and mouse'.

"I liked it when we had to skip for one minute and make our hearts beat fast."

"It was hard when we had to skip on one leg."

"I liked it when eight of us were challenged to run under the rope at the same time"

"We had to count the timing carefully and run under the rope so that we didn't touch it."

Last Friday on the second visit to school Reception and Year 1 pupils took part in skipping games.

Skipping forwards.
Skipping backwards.
Using a long rope to work with our partners.

In the afternoon our gifted and talented skippers had a workshop to learn lots of new ways to skip.During assembly they showed all the pupils in school what they had been learning..

One person faced forwards, one person faced backwards. They held each others rope and skipped as a pair.

Can can skipping.

Skipping, hopping, and kicking in a sequence. Very tricky.

We did some partner work. Skipping together, then moving apart, then coming back together.

Excellent team work.

Next we tried swinging the rope from side to side, skipping then crossing over the ropes in a sequence.

Then we combined all the skipping skills together and put in a under the leg move as well. Wrapping the rope around our arm was an amazing skill, we really enjoyed this one.
After that we did some double dutch skipping using two ropes. We really had to concentrate in the double dutch. This was awesome, skipping double dutch whilst skipping with his own rope in the middle, All at the same time!!
