Being on the School Council is a very responsible job because we have have discussions and make decisions about what is right for our school.  We take ideas back to our classes to discuss and we ask children what their views are.

In 2009-2010 the School Council have been involved in the following activities:

  • Sharing ideas and agreeing plans for our playground which have now gone to the council for planning permission
  • Choosing play equipment for us to use playtimes - this has included skipping ropes, tennis bats and balls, small plastic balls.
  • Deciding which songs and hymns we like to sing in our assemblies
  • Planting plants and shrubs in and around the school.  We have planted up tubs with sensory plants and we have planted bulbs in the school garden.

Last year our School Council told us:

"We had a very busy and exciting year, working hard and enjoying being part of the School Council!

We took part in the 'Big Tidy Up'.  We tidied up the areas in and around the school site, including a litter pick in the streets immediately local to the school.  Many members of the council also volunteered to help at this event. Gloves, bibs and litter pickers were provided for the pupils to use."

Eco Schoools

The School Council have decided to take responsibility for developing our school as an eco friendly school.

A water Hippo saves one litre of water every time you flush! We have asked the caretaker to use the water hippos in our toilet cisterns.

We made posters to save electricity and displayed it around school, saying for example, 'Save energy. Save the world.  Switch if off!'
